Instrument Finishes

Eclipse instruments are available in a wide range of different finishes to suit your own style and sound requirements.

In terms of sound, we have found with Eclipse Instruments relative to raw brass, lacquer will very slightly warm or darken the sound, silver plate will brighten very slightly, and gold will leave the sound virtually unchanged. We offer any of our standard finishes with each instrument, so the choice really is yours!

Standard Finishes

Clear Lacquer

For the Lacquer finish, the instrument is buffed and polished to a mirror finish, then coated with clear gloss lacquer.

Scratch Lacquer

The Scratch Lacquer finish features a very finely hand scratched surface with accents such as the inner bell, valve bottoms, button tops and slides buffed to a mirror finish. The instrument is then coated with clear gloss lacquer.

Gold Lacquer

The Gold Lacquer is applied over the surface of an instrument that has been polished to a mirror finish.

Matte Gold Lacquer

The Matte Gold Lacquer finish features a surface completely polished to a mirror finish, then the instrument is coated with our Matte Gold Lacquer. The lacquer itself once applied dries to a lovely matte finish.

Raw Brass

This is an instrument that has been polished to a mirror finish and then left without any finish applied to it.

Silver Plate

For the Silver finish, the instrument is buffed and polished to a mirror finish, then plated with bright silver plate.

Special Order Finishes

Silver Plate with 24K Gold Accents + £200

The Silver & Gold finish features an instrument buffed and polished to a mirror finish; the main instrument body is then plated with bright silver plate while the slides, valve tops, valve bottoms, button tops and traditional water keys are plated with 24kt gold plate.

Savannah Lacquer + £175

Savannah Lacquer is a special color mixed by Eclipse back in 2006. This color Lacquer is applied over the surface of an instrument that has been polished to a mirror finish.

Matt Black Lacquer + £175

Our Matte black Lacquer mix is sprayed directly over the surface on an instrument polished to a mirror finish.

Bronze Lacquer + £175

Our Bronze Lacquer is applied over the surface of an instrument that has been polished to a mirror finish.

Additional Information

If any of our products are purchased with a red brass bell, some of our lacquers will not cover the instrument with a uniform color. Due to the fact that red brass bells are visibly darker in color than the rest of the instrument you will find that the following lacquers will look darker on the bell than the rest of the instrument: matte gold lacquer, gold lacquer and bronze lacquer.
